How to spin your wedges

Controlling the spin on your wedges is a huge factor to scoring well.

If you can knock your approaches close, you’ll be on your way to more birdies and pars. Here’s the proper technique to spinning the ball: Shift your weight to the left on the downswing, with the shaft leaning toward the target and the left wrist arched forward.

These moves create a descending blow and maximize the backspin on the ball. Leaning back in an attempt to help the ball up produces a hard-to-control shot with little spin. To make it grab on the green, stay committed to hitting down on the ball and be sure to carry it far enough into the green.
