Sweep the ball off the turf is a great swing thought for hitting a 3-wood from the fairway.
But amateurs often misinterpret the tip on sweeping and do it with an early release of their wrists on the downswing. They literally flip their hands at the ball. It’s hard to hit it solid that way.
Here’s how to make better contact: Play the ball just inside the heel of your front foot. Then widen your stance so your back shoulder is significantly lower than your front.
The shaft should lean slightly toward the target, but not as much as it does with an iron. With this new setup, the clubhead will swing on a more level attack angle so you can launch it high
