Every golf book or golf pro will give you a different theory about aligning yourself properly. Lots of high-scoring amateurs get obsessed by aligning their feet, shoulders, or ears to the target. If you watch a professional golfer the chances are they’ll look at he hole from behind the ball then set their club face directly at the target again behind the ball. Then they take their stance.
Try it yourself. Once you’ve aligned your club, position the rest of your body. Some players benefit from aligning their lower body left of the target line and their upper body parallel to the target line. If you align your body directly at the target, this can sometimes load to crossovers and over—the—top swings. Try keeping your body aiming left of the target line, and experiment with what works best for you but follow that golden rule and align your club first. If it works for the top golfers, it’ll probably work for you!
