In order to hit the target you need to learn how to align your body properly and point in the right direction. Many golf coaches will ask you to visualise that you’re standing on a rail track. It’s probably best not to go on an actual rail track unless you want to be flattened by an express train. Point the head of the club along one track directly at the target, and your feet along a parallelline slightly left of the target (right if you are left-handed). There is an easy way to trial this. Stand as if you are about to hit the ball, then laya club across the tips of your toes. It should be pointing along the inner rail of your imaginary rail track. The club face should point along the outside rail. To keep this line as you swing, keep your eye on a blade of grass or a divot a couple of feet in front of you and use that as the target.
It’s much easier to aim at something near to you.
