Easy outs from the sand

Uphill lies in sand give amateurs trouble, because the tendency is to drive the clubhead directly into the upslope. But there’s no margin of error that way.

If you hit behind the ball just a little, you’ll be hitting another shot out of the sand.

The key? Adjust your setup.

Rather than worry about your upper body, focus on shifting almost all of your weight to your back foot. In doing that, you’ll see that your upper body naturally adjusts so it’s parallel to the slope. This will allow you to shallow out the club arc and slide the clubface under the ball.

Also, remember to make an aggressive swing on uphill shots—the ball will go almost straight up and land more softly
