It’s difficult to recognize any slight leg or hip movement that may have creped into your putting stroke over time. Because your shoulders require a perfectly still base to swing the putter like a pendulum, all it takes to miss a four-footer is a small lower-body flinch.
To check if your lower body is stable, rest the grip of a wedge against your lead hip and roll some putts. With your attention on the point of contact between the wedge and your hip, you’ll be able to feel even the smallest movement in your lower body.
If you detect any motion, keep practicing until the wedge remains dead still.
