On 3-wood shots, I see amateurs play the ball way up in their stance, and then try to help it off the ground at impact. As a result, they hit very low on the clubface and top it or skim it along the ground. For better 3-woods, position the ball a few inches inside your left heel, and when you swing into impact, make sure your weight is shifting left and you’re hitting down on the ball.
Don’t be afraid to hit down.
