Backspin comes from hitting the ball cleanly, then taking a divot after impact. The biggest mistake is trying to pounce down on the ball. You’ll often catch the ground first and hit the shot fat. To create more backspin on your wedges, play the ball a touch farther forward than normal to create more loft at impact, which also helps stop the ball on the green. Fight the urge to play the ball back. Then, give it a good, firm strike, with your hands and wrists staying solid through impact .
