You might have been told that when you reach the top of your backswing, the shaft should be pointing on a line parallel with your target line. But if you don’t have good shoulder mobility, it’s hard to reach that position—and you lose power on the downswing. Here’s an adjustment that can help. As you start down, let your lead hip move laterally toward the target, and keep driving your body in that direction for as long as you can. This will let the club drop to the inside and move powerfully into impact.
