Fold the knee in the golf swing

The left knee absorbs a lot of impact on the downswing.

A lot of factors go in to the perfect golf swing, but one of the most forgotten aspects of the swing is the weight transfer from the backswing to the downswing. The backswing stores power as weight is transferred to your right leg (for a right-handed golfer) and then released to your left leg during the downswing. Part of this shift in weight puts a lot of pressure on your left knee, and that is why keeping it in the right position throughout the swing is extremely important.

Instructions

Start your backswing with your left knee slightly bent and pointed perpendicular to your swing plane.

  1. Slowly rotate your left knee toward your other leg as you shift your weight to your right foot during the backswing. As your rotate your hips and shift your power, your left knee will naturally do this.

  2. Shift your weight to your left knee as you explode into your swing. Your hips will rotate, as well, putting a lot of pressure on your left knee.

  3. Keep your left knee perpendicular to your swing plane all the way through impact with the ball

  4. Rotate and fold your left knee over once contact has been made and all of your weight has been transferred.
