What does the right arm do, what part does the right wrist play, and does your right shoulder move properly?
Right Arm Gets Straighter
Not many people think of the right arm as a crucial part to getting to impact, but the right arm will straighten and extend allowing the club to reach impact, at full radius or extension. This straightening of the right arm, is a measuring device to allow you to reach the bottom of the arch every time, and with the same feel.
The Right Wrist
As the right arm extends and reaches downward, the back of the right wrist is bent backwards and held in that position to impact and beyond, with palm facing away. This is known as the “Magic Move” or the “Secret Move” to keep the clubface square through impact.
There is teaching aid known as “The Secret” by Greg Norman, that will provide the correct feel of the right hand, and stabilize it in the correct position until your muscles can do it on their own.
The Down and Through The down and through occurs when you tilt to the ball properly. The right shoulder will come under the spine, downward to the ball, which causes the right arm to get straighter, allowing the shoulder to get lower and the spine to have a slight drop toward the ball. That is the “down” part of the down and through. Once impact is made, the right shoulder will continue to lower toward the target and after impact, the right bicep will be touching the right breast muscle.
